Current health expenditure measures all spending on healthcare goods and services consumed by a country in a given year, including both public and private sources, as defined by the WHO System of Health Accounts.
Measured as a percentage (%) of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Data Profile
This dataset covers the period from 2000 to 2024, recording data for 193 entities. Data is sourced from World Bank.
- As of 2024, Germany holds the top position with a value of 12.0%.
- The highest recorded value was 27.0% by Tuvalu in 2023.
Limitations
This indicator captures current spending only and excludes capital investment in health infrastructure. The share of GDP can be influenced by overall economic size as well as health sector costs.
